Sisco sisters pace Prairie Central; EPG boys, Fieldcrest girls win in HOIC tourney play

MONTICELLO — Chloe Sisco and twin sister Mariya Sisco combined to score more points themselves than Monticello did as a team as Prairie Central garnered a 57-32 victory in an Illini Prairie Conference girls' basketball game Monday.

Chloe Sisco had 21 points and Mariya Sisco chipped in 14 for a combined 35 for the Hawks. Chloe Sisco scored nearly half of her points in the third quarter as Prairie Central outscored the Sages 18-10 to make it a 46-32 contest.

The Hawks had led 13-7 after the first quarter and 28-22 at the intermission. PC outscored Monticello 11-0 in the last stanza.

Katy Curl added 7 points and 9 rebounds while Gyllian Davies netted 5 points, Sawyer Ashman chipped in 4 points. Lucy Whitfill had 3 points and Clare Strong scored 2 points and Kelly Wilkey had 1 point.

McLean County Tournament

The top seeds were each victorious in quarterfinal round play of the heart of Illinois Conference, aka McLean County, tournament Monday. No.1 El Paso-Gridley cruised past Heyworth in the boys' tourney and top-seed Fieldcrest rolled past Lexington in the girls' event.

EPG 62, Heyworth 29

At Illinois Wesleyan, Heyworth was no match for the favored Titans as EPG outscored the Hornets in each quarter, including by a 13-0 margin to start the game played at the Shirk Center.

El Paso-Gridley outscored Heyworth 11-10 in the second period for a 24-10 halftime lead. EPG practically doubled its first-half output in the third quarter by tallying 23 markers in building a 47-25 lead. A 15-4 difference in the last stanza provided the final difference.

Luke Ihlenfeldt paced El Paso-Gridley (17-2) with 15 points and Jake Funk contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds. Micah Meiss scored 11 points and Asa Smith collected 7 points, 9 boards and 5 assists.

Connor Moore scored 8 points for Heyworth (8-10).

The win moves EPG into the semifinal round Friday and will meet fourth-seed LeRoy, who topped No. 5 Lexington in the other quarterfinal.

Fieldcrest 49, Lexington 21

At Eureka College, all four of the girls' quarterfinals were played with top-seed Fieldcrest strolling to a 49-21 victory over No. 8 Lexington. The Knights played this game without head coach Mitch Neally, who has been quarantined until Wednesday.

Ashlyn May got Fieldcrest moving quickly with 10 points in the first quarter, which was all the FHS scoring. The Knights led 10-4 after the opening stanza and pushed the margin to 25-11 by halftime. Fieldcrest scored 18 points in the third frame as the margin grew to 43-15.

May finished with 20 points and 5 rebounds while Haley Carver threw in 11 points as the Knights improved to 21-1. Kaitlin White had 8 points and 6 assists while Ell Goodrich chimed in with 6 markers.

Faith Keagle led Lexington with 7 points while Claire Peacock and Jayalia Therien scored 5 points apiece.

Dee-Mack 35, EPG 30

Dee-Mack was able to inch away from El Paso-Gridley over the final three quarters in advancing to the semifinal round with a 35-30 quarterfinal win over the Titans.

The Chiefs and EPG were tied at 10-10 after one period but Dee-Mack then outscored the Titans 9-8 in the second for a 10-18 halftime lead and 9-7 in the third for a 28-25 advantage through three frames. Dee-Mack held an edge over the game's final 14 minutes.

Jordyn Cannon led El Paso-Gridley (9-11) with 13 points and Kaylea Randall had 10 points. Michaela Kelly grabbed 7 rebounds.

Addison Swadinsky had 11 points and Lexi Cottingham corralled 12 boards for Dee-Mack (12-9).

TCC Tourney

MARSEILLES — Despite the efforts of Brooke Vigna, Dwight suffered a 54-34 loss to host Ottawa (Marquette) in opening round play of the Tri-County Conference Tournament Monday.

Vigna collected 18 points and 24 rebounds for the Trojans.Lilly Duffy had 6 points while Kassy Kodat scored 5 points.

Dwight will take on Midland in the next round Wednesday.
