Significant damage caused in Yorkville fire

May 15—POTTSVILLE — A fire caused significant damage to a Yorkville double home Friday.

The blaze affected both homes, 14 and 16 York Farm Road.

Pottsville Fire Chief James Misstishin said the fire was reported at 11:47 a.m. There was heavy fire and smoke on arrival.

Brad Brennan, who lives directly across the street, said he saw the fire, and his father called 911.

"It was a little fire that just got bigger," Brennan said. "It was crazy. It happened so fast."

Brennan's father then tried to call one resident, but she was not home. Two dogs ran from the house when firefighters arrived.

Brennan saw the fire on the back porch of 16, the right side of the house, which is visible from the street. The fire seemed to have started outside and quickly spread, causing damage to the roof, the right side of the building and the back and interior of both homes.

Units from Pottsville, Minersville, Schuylkill Haven, Orwigsburg and Saint Clair responded.

Crews got the fire under control after 1 p.m.

According to Patty Daley, disaster captain with the Tri-County Chapter American Red Cross, residents of 14 York Farm Road are two adults, Eduana Garcia and Samuel Nunez, and a child, Dahnika Zyk.

At 16 York Farm Road, there are two adults, Heather Tipping and Jarrett Bass, and a child, Harper Bass, according to Daley.

In a preliminary report, Misstishin said seven individuals would be displaced, but he did not have the name of a possible second child in 14.

Misstishin said no one was home when the fire began. Two dogs were rescued from 16, while one pet perished in 14. One firefighter was injured.

Investigation showed the fire was accidental, caused by an electrical problem.
