Siena men's basketball sets 2021-22 non-conference schedule

Jul. 29—LOUDONVILLE — The full non-conference slate of nine games for the Siena men's basketball program was unveiled Thursday.

The Saints' non-MAAC games include three at their home Times Union Center, a venue in downtown Albany that Siena didn't play any games at last season because of restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic. Siena will play Delaware, Yale and Harvard at home in November, with the Saints' Nov. 13 game against Delaware serving as their home opener.

Meanwhile, Siena will play six road games during the non-conference season. The Saints open their season Nov. 9 at St. Bonaventure, and later play road games against Georgetown, Bucknell, Army, Holy Cross and American.

Georgetown and St. Bonaventure each played in last season's NCAA tournament.

Siena finished 12-5 last season, and won a share of the MAAC regular-season championship before falling in the conference tournament's quarterfinals. During an abbreviated 2020-21 season, the Saints didn't play any games against non-MAAC foes.

Into the 2021-22 campaign, Siena brings a remodeled coaching staff and roster.

Head coach Carmen Maciariello, who signed a contract extension through the 2025-26 season during the offseason, has three new assistant coaches in Bobby Castagna, Greg Fahey and Marcus King. Fahey previously was the program's director of basketball operations, and Matt Miner is now in that position. Miner had been the Saints' special assistant to the head coach, and that role now belongs to Jonathan Pickett.

Meanwhile, Harley Fuller, Bob Simon and Antoni Wyche are now all former Siena assistant coaches. Fuller is now the head coach at Mohawk Valley Community College, while Simon (Eastern Michigan) and Wyche (Notre Dame) each remain assistant coaches.

Siena's roster for the 2021-22 season includes nine new players, a group that Anthony Gaines — a Northwestern transfer — highlights. From last season, Siena only returns 38.1% of its scoring and 35.5% of its rebounding, while four of the team's starters from the Saints' season-ending loss are no longer with the program.

The team's personnel losses include each of the program's three all-conference performers from last season, with Jordan King (East Tennessee State) and Jalen Pickett (Penn State) transferring elsewhere, and Manny Camper — last season's MAAC Player of the Year — pursuing a professional career.

The MAAC schedule has not yet been released.
