Sidewalk spectators jam route for Redding Lighted Christmas Parade
Twinkling floats, marching bands with instruments aglow and golden retrievers wearing colorful lights put on a show Saturday night for the Redding Lighted Christmas Parade in downtown Redding.
Sidewalks were jam-packed with spectators for the holiday procession, which is hosted by the Active 20-30 Club of Redding.
One of the most popular floats, judging by the cheers and applause along the route, was the U-Prep volleyball team. The girls rallied to win the first state volleyball title in Shasta County history by defeating Exeter on Nov. 20 at Santiago Canyon College in Orange and claiming the CIF Division IV state championship.
This year's grand marshal was Kimberly Johnson, founder and executive director of the Children’s Legacy Center. The theme was Christmas Through the Decades.
The parade returned to downtown Redding after last year's event was a drive-thru parade with stationary entries lining a route at the Shasta District Fair grounds due to the pandemic.
