Shots rang out at Silverado High School on Friday as a preseason scrimmage football game ended at the campus stadium in Victorville.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez told the Daily Press that at 8:38 p.m. a caller reported that the game had just ended when several gunshots were heard in the parking lot area.

Deputies and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene. No gunshot wound victims were found, and no suspects had been identified, Rodriguez said.

The investigation is still active, and further details were not available, sheriff’s officials said.

Silverado principal Heather Conkle told the Daily Press that she could not comment due to the active investigation.

“It was a great game, and it’s unfortunate that is not the headline,” said Conkle, about the game between visiting Serrano High School and Silverado.

Witnesses told the Daily Press that players, coaches and students were on the field when the shots rang out.

They added that everyone at the stadium moved to one end of the playing field for their safety.

One witness said one area of the school parking lot was blocked off, possibly for an investigation, and vehicles were prevented from leaving.

"My grandkids who are 4, 7, and 8 were scared to death," one grandparent said. "They are saying they thought they were going to die."

On Friday night, Snowline Joint Unified School District officials released an online statement about the shooting at Silverado High.

A portion of the statement said that the shooting did not involve Serrano High students, staff, or spectators, who arrived safely back on campus in Phelan.

Upon arrival, they were greeted by Serrano High administration officials and Snowline School Police. Serrano counselors will be available to staff and students for additional support, district officials said.

This story is developing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
