Shopping center to add Barberitos

Feb. 25—HIGH POINT — A second Barberitos restaurant location in High Point will be among four new tenants at the Heron Village shopping center.

Will Stevens, owner of the complex at 2754 N.C. 68, said it will open in late March in the space previously occupied by Qdoba Mexican Eats.

The new location for the fast casual chain, which features Southwestern-style food, will be operated by Dennis Lemons, who co-owns the Barberitos at the Oak Hollow Village shopping center at 1231 Eastchester Drive.

Stevens said he has also signed leases with two spas that are opening in Heron Village and a cookie shop called Sweet Dough.

"We're 100% full," he said. "Unfortunately, (the coronavirus pandemic) put four tenants out of business. I didn't do it. I told every one of my tenants, 'I'm going to work with you however I can to make sure you're successful.' But four of them decided it just wasn't worth it. But all of them have been re-leased."

In addition to Qdoba Mexican Eats, Supercuts and Juice Batch closed and a fourth business moved from Heron Village to the neighboring Lakeview at Mendenhall Oaks office condominium park, Stevens said.

Heron Village's existing tenants include Duck Donuts, Small Batch and Fleet Feet Sports.

One of the new businesses, Mahaly Spa, has already opened where Supercuts was. Sweet Dough will open in April where Juice Batch was and the other new tenant, Purefico Medspa & Therapy, will open beside the Basil Leaf restaurant, also in April.

He said the retail climate is improving and he hopes it will return to pre-pandemic levels.

"I do think the second half of this year is just going to be gangbusters," he said. "There's just a lot of activity happening."
