A shooting at the Mall of Victor Valley on Friday night left one man dead and two people injured, including a young child.

Gunfire reportedly erupted outside the mall’s Red Robin restaurant Friday night, sending two people to the hospital.

A Desert Valley Hospital employee told the Daily Press that an 8-year-old shooting victim had been flown from the Victorville medical facility to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department did not provide further details or identify the man who was killed Saturday.

“As soon as investigators are ready to release more information, we will get it out,” said Mara Rodriguez, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department.

At 8:47 p.m. Friday, the Victorville Sheriff’s Station reported on Twitter that a man had been pronounced dead outside the mall, and one juvenile and another man were both shot and transported for medical treatment.

Cody and Leanne Anderson of Hesperia were dining at Red Lobster across the parking lot from the mall around 8 p.m. when they saw 15 to 20 sheriff’s patrol cars pulling up, they said.

“They put up caution tape and told us that the area was on lockdown,” Leanne Anderson, 25, said. “Later, we saw three ambulances speeding away from the mall.”

A sheriff’s deputy later told the couple that authorities were seeking an “active shooter” and that the mall and surrounding businesses were on lockdown.

Rodriguez said the investigation was ongoing.
