DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department (DCSD) and The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in North Mississippi.
FOX13 went to the post office on the 3700 block of Goodman Road West early Thursday Morning and saw a car with one bullet hole in the driver’s side window.
A spokesperson with the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department said one of their deputies shot an armed suspect during a traffic stop around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday night. DSCD said the MBI is investigating and to please direct any further questions to them.
MBI released a statement that said,
“The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting involving Desoto County Sheriff’s Department that occurred on Wednesday,
August 17, 2022, near Mississippi Highway 302 and Goodman Road in Desoto, Mississippi. MBI is currently assessing this critical incident and gathering evidence. Upon completing their investigation, agents will share their findings with the Attorney General’s Office.”
FOX13′s reporter Tom Dees talked to people who live near there, and they said something needs to change.
”Being a pastor my prayers are that God really touches the hearts of these people and changes them from their wicked ways because it is hard out here when you have to deal with people who don’t respect the law,” Pastor Charles Matthews said.
Matthews lives in the neighborhood behind the post office where the officer-involved shooting happened.
”I would really like to see the law be more respected than people give them, but I would also like to see the law give the respect that they should give,” Matthews said, “but I am hoping that our officers here have the safety that they need and they don’t have to go through things like being shot by coldhearted people.”
Karen Hannah lives in the same neighborhood.
”It sounds like the one down in front of Popeyes where they said the woman pulled the gun and they shot her. I don’t know, I wasn’t there, so I can’t give any facts,” Hannah said.
FOX13 has reached out to MBI for the identity of the person shot, and what led to the traffic stop.
