VERONA — It's been eight months since the Augusta County Sheriff's Office pleaded to the public to help find a missing child.

More information could be coming regarding the child, the sheriff's office said.

It was first announced in September that Khaleesi Cuthriell, a 3-year-old Staunton girl, had been missing for several months, but was never reported.

At the initial press conference, it was reported that Khaleesi's mother, Amanda G. Arey of Staunton, gave her child to Candi Jo Royer, 42, before Arey was incarcerated at Middle River Regional Jail. The sheriff's office said Travis Brown, 30, was also helping care for the child.

Both Brown and Royer are currently charged with child abuse in Augusta County in connection with the missing toddler.

Arey didn't report her child missing until September.

Weeks after the sheriff's office held the initial press conference alerting the public of the missing child, authorities announced the girl was presumed dead.

A day before the toddler's death was reported, there was a police search at 249 Cattle Scales Road, where both Royer and Brown previously lived, along with an adjacent property. Cadaver dogs have been used in the search for the toddler's body, which has not been found.

Now, the sheriff's office, along with Commonwealth Attorney Tim Martin, will be holding a press conference at the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, May 24 at 11:30 a.m. The press conference is in reference to 3-year-old Khaleesi, a release said.

The News Leader will update after the press conference Tuesday with any new information.
