Shawn Mendes' bare unshaved chest is out in full force at the 2019 AMAs and Twitter has thoughts

We knew we'd see Taylor. We knew we'd see Lizzo. We knew we'd see Billie, Selena, Camila and Carrie. But nobody could have known that the night of the 2019 American Music Awards, we'd see a large swath of Shawn Mendes' unshaved chest.

The 21-year-old singer has occasionally appeared on red carpets with his top buttons undone, but Sunday's look was a bit more than fans bargained for: Mendes arrived wearing an eggplant-colored suit layered over a green and purple shirt with a plunging V-neckline. Drawing even more attention to the skin-baring look were two layered necklaces.

If Mendes was hesitant about posing for the paparazzi in such a look, he didn't let on, looking confident as ever as he flashed peace signs and his pearly whites at the crowd.

Twitter was quick to react to the look, but reactions were divided, with many fans near-salivating and others shielding their eyes: "Yass '70s porn style chest hair - the Sunday Night Fever look hot!" one gushed, while another countered, "Can Shawn Mendes put on a shirt like no one wanna see ya chest hair."

Mendes is nominated for two AMAs, including one for Best Collaboration with singer Camila Cabello. The two say they struck up a romantic relationship earlier this year while working on their hit "Señorita," which they'll perform together on Sunday.
