Sewer line breaks dumping thousands of gallons of untreated sewage into Ocala streets

Extreme weather conditions caused a break in a sewer line in Ocala.

Ocala officials said the 18-inch force main break occurred at SE 17th Street and State Road 464 from SE 20th Avenue to SE 22nd Avenue.

According to a news release, the break caused nearly 600,000 gallons of untreated sewage to spill.

Crews were able to divert the flow and repair to the main line.

East and westbound traffic have been reduced to one lane of travel.

Officials said the area has been sanitized.
