Severe weather moving into the Shreveport, Bossier area: Here's what you need to know

On an unusually warm January day, Shreveport-Bossier was covered with clouds as storms moved into the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) announced that hazardous weather and severe thunderstorms would be moving into the area for the afternoon hours of Wednesday, Jan. 19.

"A few strong to severe storms will be possible during the afternoon and evening hours," NWS said. "Showers and thunderstorms will develop near a strong cold front as it moves across the region today."

The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for 16 parishes including Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto and Webster parish. This watch will be in effect until 7 p.m.

These storms could bring large hail, damaging wind gusts and a possibility of tornadoes.

NWS said that following the front a very cold airmass will move into the area, with temps falling into the low to mid 30's.

Below normal temperatures will remain in the area until the first half of the weekend.
