Seventeen-year-old arrested and charged with murder in Northland shooting

Columbus police have arrested 17-year-old Deshajuan Carpenter and charged him with murder in connection with a shooting Friday in Northland that killed one man and wounded another.

Police said the shooting was reported at 10:12 a.m. in a parking lot at the Bluff Gardens apartments in the 1800 block of Oak Grove Court, off Tamarack Boulevard north of Morse Road.

Police said a male victim, believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at 10:24 a.m. inside a light-colored, four-door Lincoln sedan parked at the rear of the parking lot. at the scene at 10:24 a.m. The death is the 182nd homicide in Columbus this year.

A second male, also believed to be in his 20s was wounded. He was taken by friends to Mount Carmel St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville, police said. His injuries are non-life-threatening, police said.

Police have not identified either victim and no other information was available Friday night.
