Series of accidents mar afternoon commute in Berks

Jul. 13—Emergency crews rushed to the scene of a series of accidents reported around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The first was a motorcycle accident at Upland Avenue and Morgantown Road in Reading.

A motorcycle collided with a vehicle, leaving the motorcycle driver injured, reports said.

Police arriving on the scene asked for expedited emergency assistance at the scene.

Crews reportedly transporting one patient to the Reading Hospital at 2:33 p.m.

Another crash happened in the eastbound lanes of Route 422 in Exeter, just east of the Mount Penn exit, near the Boscov's distribution center.

One car crashed into the guide rail, leaving the driver briefly unresponsive, according to emergency reports shortly after 2:15 p.m.

Traffic was backed up, and Route 422 eastbound at the I-176 ramp was briefly shut down as crews cleared the scene. One lane was reopened about 2:45 p.m.

No further information on the extent of the injuries in either accident was available Wednesday afternoon.

At 3:45 p.m. there was another crash in the southbound lanes of Route 222 in Bern Township just north of Route 183 that was tying up traffic.
