Saturday night began quite normally for Megan Munoz and her children, Brayen and Connor. The three were at the Honda Center to watch their Anaheim Ducks take on the San Jose Sharks. Then, during a break in the action, they got the surprise of a lifetime.
Not a dry eye in the house during the first period tonight as Sergeant Robert Munoz surprised his wife Megan, their sons Brayen and Connor, his dad Robert Munoz Sr. and stepmom Nina Munoz in his return home after a second tour of duty in Iraq and 11 months overseas. pic.twitter.com/Y0QwwaDD20— Anaheim Ducks (@AnaheimDucks) October 6, 2019
What began as a promotion for the 50/50 raffle ended with Sgt. Robert Munoz, their husband and father, giving them plenty of hugs and kisses after nearly a year in Iraq.
“Oh my God,” said Megan in between tears upon realizing what was happening.
A big fan of the Ducks, Sgt. Munoz wanted to reunite with his family at a game and their reaction to seeing him is almost overwhelming to watch.
“Love you son,” said Sgt. Munoz’s father — Robert Munoz Sr. — during their embrace.
To show their support for his sacrifice and that of his family, fans cheered and gave them a standing ovation for over a minute while the song ‘My Hero’ by Foo Fighters played throughout the rink.
It didn’t stop there, though.
The Ducks also showed their appreciation, knocking off the Sharks 3-1 to improve to a perfect 2-0-0 this season.
