Senior High sets 40th reunion for state runner-up 1982 football team

Aug. 10—EAST GRAND FORKS — East Grand Forks Senior High will hold a reunion for the state runner-up 1982 football team on Sept. 9-10.

The 1982 squad was the first in school history to play for the state football title. The Green Wave lost to Brooklyn Center in the final, which was played at the Metrodome for the first time.

Senior High later played in another state final in 2004, beating Becker for the Class AAA title.

The 40-year reunion of the 1982 team will be held in conjunction with a 40-year reunion of the 1983 graduating class. The reunions will coincide with Senior High's home football game against Detroit Lakes.

It will start with a potluck at 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9 in the Senior High parking lot. There will be a photo of the Class of 1983 on the west side of the stadium at 5:45 p.m. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. Players, coaches, managers and cheerleaders will be honored at halftime.

After the game, the group will gather at Eagles in East Grand Forks.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, there will be tours of Senior High beginning at 10 a.m. and a gathering at the VFW in East Grand Forks at 5 p.m.
