See Tennessee Vols cheerleader try to retrieve letter left on court floor during game play

Tennessee basketball was hitting on all cylinders during the Vols' game against Arkansas on Saturday IN Thompson-Boling Arena.

Well, almost.

As is normal during a timeout, Tennessee cheerleaders led cheers on the floor while the two teams huddled up. But as the timeout wrapped up and play resumed with 15:46 left in the game, the floor cleared — except for the large letter 'O' a cheerleader used for a cheer during the timeout, left on the floor near midcourt. The letter blended in with the floor enough for at least one possession to be played with the letter sitting on the floor.

A cheerleader tasked with retrieving the letter from the floor pleaded with an official to stop play for several seconds before whistles blew. The cheerleader did eventually get the letter off the floor after an official's timeout was called.

By that point, Tennessee basketball had a stress-free day. And though Arkansas cut a 21-point deficit down to 11 in the second half, the Vols pushed the lead back to 16 with nine minutes to play.

Saturday's game between the two teams is the regular season finale for each. If Auburn loses to South Carolina later Saturday, the winner of Tennessee-Arkansas shares the SEC title with the Tigers and earns the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament next week. If Auburn wins, the winner earns the No. 2 seed.
