Traffic on Interstate 70 westbound near Downtown will return to two lanes Sunday following a weekend closure that begins Friday night, the Ohio Department of Transportation has announced.

The closure on I-70 will be between the Interstate 71 interchange and the Route 315 interchange. It takes effect at 10 p.m. Friday and is expected to last until about noon on Sunday.

When I-70 west reopens on Sunday afternoon, there will then be two lanes available between the Miller and Kelton avenues exit and the I-71 exit headed through the Downtown area.

That's just a few days after the end of November, when ODOT had indicated in October that the opening to two lanes on I-70 through Downtown would occur.

The roadwork is part of a large Downtown Ramp Up project surrounding the Interstate 70 and Interstate 71 interchanges near downtown Columbus.

The lanes reopening on I-70 westbound is number two on the accompanying map of coming events in connection with the project.
