Second round of Zozo Championship postponed due to bad weather

Round 2 of the Zozo Championship in Japan has been postponed due to heavy rain, the PGA Tour announced Thursday.

Overnight rain in Chiba, Japan soaked the course at Narashino Country Club. Play is now scheduled to resume at 5:30 p.m. ET Friday (6:30 a.m. Saturday local time). Tee times had originally been moved up an hour, but the weather was too extreme to play at all.

American Justin Thomas, who was tied for 25th overall after the opening round, posted about the severity of the storm.

After Round 1, Tiger Woods was tied with Gary Woodland for the lead at 6-under in his first appearance this year.

The event is the PGA Tour’s first in Japan – it features a $9.75 million purse and will run for six years – and replaces the CIMB Classic, which was held in Malaysia.
