Scott Twp. woman charged with cutting officer's hands

Jun. 12—A Scott Twp. woman cut a police officer's hands with a razor Wednesday morning as he tried to handcuff her, police charged.

Brenda Wolfe, 39, 22 South Leader Lane, is charged with aggravated assault for cutting Patrolman Wayne Kosch's hands seriously enough that he required several stitches, according to a criminal complaint. She is also charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Kosch responded to her home about 3 a.m. because an open line to 911 indicated a domestic disturbance was taking place. The dispatcher could hear a woman on the line yelling for help.

The officer found Wolfe in her yard screaming that people were trying to kill her and her husband was unfaithful.

Kosch requested an ambulance, and Wolfe fled through several yards while screaming. Kosch caught up to her and tried to put her in handcuffs for safety, according to police.

She fought back and removed a razor blade hidden beneath her cellphone, stabbing at Kosch's hands, police charged.

With help from emergency medical service personnel, Kosch got her into custody. Wolfe was taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center for a mental health evaluation, according to police.

Wolfe is in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled June 21.
