School bus with 31 students aboard crashes in Naples, but no injuries reported
Nov. 29—No one was injured Monday morning when a school bus carrying 31 elementary school students struck a Subaru from behind on Roosevelt Trail in Naples.
The crash occurred just before 8:30 a.m. near 99 Roosevelt Trail when a school bus struck a Subaru, causing the car to hit a propane rack outside a convenience store, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.
Amelia Harmon, 35, of Naples, was waiting to turn left into the parking lot of Lake Region Convenience when her car was hit by the school bus registered to the MSAD 61/Lake Region School District and driven by 72-year-old Susan McMahon of Naples. Harmon's car hit a third vehicle as it was pushed into the parking lot.
After hitting the unoccupied third vehicle, the Subaru struck the propane rack, forcing it through the exterior wall of the convenience store. There is significant damage to the store, according to the sheriff's office.
Authorities say everyone involved in the incident was evaluated at the scene.
Harmon and her passengers — her 4-year-old son and a 38-year-old man — were not injured. Neither was anyone on the school bus or in store, the sheriff's office said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but investigators say speed and alcohol were not factors.
