Schenectady Police: Oneida Middle School threat not credible, intended as 'prank'; School to be open as normal

Oct. 24—SCHENECTADY — A threat posted to social media concerning Schenectady's Oneida Middle School has been deemed not credible and intended as a "prank," police said Sunday.

With that determination, the school is to be open as normal Monday, police said.

"The Schenectady Police Department has been working very closely with the school district following the recently discovered threat to Oneida Middle School," police said in a statement Sunday on Facebook. "Through the investigation it has been deemed that it is not a credible threat and it was intended to be a prank. There are no safety concerns in regard to this incident and the school will be open as normal."

The police department if anything further was being done about the origin of the threat.

The threat referred to multiple people entering Oneida Middle School, although no date was specified.

The school district posted about the threat on its Twitter page, noting it was also being investigated by state police.

City school officials followed up Sunday, quoting the police determination on its own Facebook page.

"Thank you to the Schenectady Police for their swift response, ongoing communication & partnership!" the district wrote.
