May 24—NORWALK — Leonard Schaffer is a famous man.

And he should be. Earlier this year Schaffer, of Norwalk, celebrated his 100th birthday.

And on Monday, Schaffer's face appeared on the Today Show's birthday feature on a Smucker's jar.

The father of four spent three-quarters of his life on Homewood Avenue and now lives in Norwalk's Memorial Home.

Schaffer, after his service time, spent 20 years at the Norwalk Truck Line and 20 at New Departure. He retired at age 65. His wife, Margaret passed away 10 years later.

"Until I had that spell on Christmas, I had lived alone for 25 years," he told the Reflector's Don Hohler for a story about his 100th birthday. "Thanks to great neighbors like Jane Stuhldreher and Tom Tracht, to name just a couple, I managed quite well.

"To be quite honest, if I want to visit some of my old friends, I have to go to the cemetery to visit them," he said. "My day is coming. At 100, I can't expect too many more years."
