Scavuzzo advances in four events for St. Paul

May 21—GIBSONBURG — St. Paul track and field sophomore Sam Scavuzzo will take part in four regional events next week in Port Clinton following Wednesday and Friday's Division III district championship meet at Gibsonburg High School.

Scavuzzo qualified in the long jump on Wednesday, then placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (24.26 seconds), and was part of the first-place 4x400 relay and the third-place 4x200 relay on Friday.

The 4x400 team for the Flyers consisted of as David Forrest, Logan Rogers, Scavuzzo and Isaac Thimke, who took first in 3:35.26. The 4x200 team was Aidan Kusser, Alex Wynn, Gabe Bond and Scavuzzo, which finished third in 1:35.65.

St. Paul's Ian Deeter also doubled up in the distance races. He placed third in both the 1600 (4>47.98) and 3200 (10:45.89) to advance to regional. The Flyers' Aiden Kusser will run at regional in the 300 hurdles and 4x200. Rodgers will be there in the 4x400 and the 400.

Also for the Flyers, Kusser was second in the 300 hurdles (43.92) and Forrest was fifth (46.4). Sebastian Gomez was second in the 800 (2:05.84), and Chris Kocher was third in the shot put (48-feet-2.25). Kocher was second in the discus on Wednesday.

Logan Rogers was fifth in the 400 (54.34) and Gavin Ross was fifth in the 3200 (10:54.55) for St. Paul.

Western Reserve's Jake Jarrett was victorious again in both hurdles races, the 110 and 300, to set himself up for a potentially big double at regional. Jarrett took the 110 in 15.83 seconds and the 300 in 42.08 seconds as he looks to return to the state championships in both events next week.

Jarrett's teammate, Aidan Beck, also made it to regional in both hurdles races. He was fourth in the 110 (17.37) and the 300 (46.23).

Also for the 'Riders, the 4x100 relay of Connor Dawson, Beck, Aidan Edwards and Jarrett placed fifth (46.08), as did Monroeville's Isaac Roeder in the shot put (45-feet-4.5).

On the girls side, Monroeville's Stacey Legg placed second in the 100 dash (13.3).

While only four girls finishers move on in each event in Division III districts, five boys finishers advance from the Gibsonburg district, so that relay just made it.

The regional meet at Tru-Lay Stadium in Port Clinton is set for Wednesday (May 25) and Friday (May 27).
