Savor a smoked tequila with your meal at this new Mexican restaurant in Ballantyne Village

Casa del Tequila is now open in Ballantyne, serving Mexican food classics such as burritos, fajitas and specialty tacos — along with a variety of tequilas, of course.

The Mexican restaurant opened in late 2022 in Ballantyne Village, right next door to where Crispy Banh Mi recently opened a new location. Ballantyne Village will also be the home to Hestia Rooftop, a new restaurant serving modern Asian cuisine, when it opens in the spring.

The food: You can find all the usual suspects. There are fajitas, quesadillas, enchiladas and chimichangas.

But there’s more. A variety of steak and seafood dishes are on the menu, as well. The Tequila Steak ($22.95), is a grilled ribeye with shrimp, topped with tomatoes, bell peppers and onions that comes with rice and a cheese enchilada. The Aguachile ($19.95) is shrimp submerged in citrus juices with cucumber, red onion and avocado, and seasoned with chili peppers, salt and cilantro.

The drinks: As you’d expect, there’s a fair number of margaritas on the menu. House margs are made with Sauza, triple sec and Gran Gala, plus the house mix — and are available in lime, strawberry, mango, peach and piña colada ($7.95 for a small, $10.95 for a large and $24.95 for a pitcher. Special varieties listed separately, such as the pomegranate or cucumber watermelon margaritas, are available only in large ($15) or by the pitcher ($35).

Tequila connoisseurs can also select their favorite one from the house list and ask for it to be smoked with cherry, apple or mesquite.

The space: A few TVs hang on the wall, turned to sports, emphasizing a relaxed atmosphere. White walls and black-and-white leather seating provide a clean backdrop for Mexican artwork hung throughout the space.
