Saving Lake Sabbatia: Taunton comes together to fight aquatic invaders

An effort years in the making to help save Lake Sabbatia from dangerous vegetation is making some waves.

Invasive weeds are everywhere in the lake, and residents have been trying for a decade to get those weeds out of the water. The weeds are dangerous to people and boats, and the lake itself: they deprive the water of oxygen, and have a number of environmental impacts on the lake.

Over the summer, concerned Sabbatia residents reached out to City Councilor John McCaul, who has been helping them work out the problem since then. The O'Connell administration, the Conservation Commission, and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation are also now a part of the fight.

See what's being done to save this locally cherished body of water.
