Saugatuck boys dominate SAC title meet- High school sports rewind

The Saugatuck boys track team came away with some more hardware to add to their collection by winning the SAC Championship on Tuesday just a few days after coming away with a regional title.

The Trailblazers finished the day with 103 points, a solid 17 points ahead of any of their competition.

Benny Diaz opted not to run the 100 after claiming the regional title over the weekend, but he did come away victorious in the 200 (22.19), 110 hurdles (14.05) and 300 hurdles (37.66a), setting a new PR and school record in the final race. He also currently holds the second-fastest time in the state in the 300 hurdles. Max Sharnas won the 800, crossing the line in 2:04.57. The Trailblazers 4X800 team of Tristan Ashley, Sharnas, Charlie Stormer and Adam Martinson also came away on top of the podium, finishing in 8:30.25. Field events were also good to Saugatuck on Tuesday with Casey Mathieu winning the high jump after clearing 5-11.00.

The Fennville boys team also competed, earning 11th place with 19 points.

On the girls side of the meet, Saugatuck was the best-finishing of the local teams coming out of the day in third place with 72 points, just 12 off the lead. Fennville finished in eighth place with 37 points.

Saugatuck freshman Mazie Robison won the 100 hurdles (16.69) and 300 hurdles (50.83). Fennville's Carmen Tencate won the long jump with a leap of 16-09.50.

Goals were scored by Mae Pasatta with two, Harper Gerow, and Ella Sligh. Assists went to Sligh with two and Layne Weatherwax. Olivia Hayes made three saves in goal for her second straight shutout

BOYS BASEBALL

Zeeland East dominates doubleheader with Muskegon, allow no hits in either game

Zeeland East traveled to Muskegon for an OK Green doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Chix defeated the Big Reds by scores of 19-0 and 24-0. Both games ended in three innings.

Zeeland East used six pitchers in the two games, none allowing a hit and combining for 16 strikeouts.

The Chix also had eight doubles and two triples amongst their 33 hits in the two games.

Zeeland East improves their record to 21-10 on the season and 13-7 in the OK Green. This also marks the seventh season in a row where Zeeland East has won at least 21 games. The Chix host Calvin Christian on Wednesday for a single game.

BOYS GOLF

West Ottawa finishes fifth at OK Red Postseason Tournament

West Ottawa traveled to Stonegate Golf Club to compete in the OK Red Postseason tournament and finished fifth shooting 351. Sophomore Will Niziolek led the way with an 84 which placed him in 16th. Sophomore Carson Witvoet shot an 86, senior Gavin Hardy had a 90 and junior Jackson Wiegerink finished the scoring with a 91.
