Saturday's Rochester baseball results

Apr. 11—Mayo 13, Century 4

Mayo finished with 10 hits and roared to a 13-4 win over Century in Big Nine Conference action.

The Spartans got two home runs, one each from Kyle Prindle, and Ian Regal. Cayden Holcomb had three hits, including a double and a triple. He totaled five RBIs. Adam McPhail was the winning pitcher, going 5 1/3 innings.

"We were able to capitalize on walks and hit batters early in the game and got good at-bats from our hitters later in the game," Mayo coach Tom Senne said. "I was very happy with the approach at the plate that most of our hitters took today. They were patient for the right pitch, but aggressive early in the count. Cayden Holcomb's adjustment at the plate was very rewarding today."

Century, which absorbed its second straight one-sided loss, was led by Cole Hein with a home run and Keith Rittenhouse and Gavin Milene each with two hits.

Owatonna 5, John Marshall 0

Owatonna limited John Marshall to just four hits and beat the Rockets 5-0 in Big Nine Conference play.

Both teams are 1-1.

JM had the bases loaded with one out in the first inning but got nothing out of it. The Rockets finished the game with five errors.

"Defensively, we struggled to make the routine plays and gave up too many free bases," JM coach Jade Boettcher said. "Guys are still getting caught up to the varsity game speed. Thankfully we get to play more baseball."
