Saturday's HS highlights: Dover swimmers sweep own Invite; Carrollton girls claim bowling crown

The host Crimson Tornado swimmers swept the team titles of the 21st annual Dover Invitational held at the Tuscarawas County YMCA pool on Saturday.

The Dover boys behind Lucas Lane won with 411 points, beating River View (207) in the 14-team field.

Lane set two meet records with a 1:47.73 in the 200 Free and posted a 54.33 in the 100 Butterfly.

Cameron Marshall won the 500 Free (5:33.55) and teamed up with Lane, Blaze Burris and Connor Fix to win the 400 Free Relay (3:53.50).

River View's Cole Tatro won the 200 IM (2:16.53) and teammate Coen Bible claimed the 100 Free (53.59), while Bible, Zachariah Phillips, Jamal Watts and Colin Ady teamed up to win the 200 Free Relay (1:36.91).

New Philadelphia (4th, 141) and Coshocton (11th, 23) also took part.

The Dover girls won 358 points, topping St. Clairsville (291) for the the title of the 11 schools involved.

Reagan Durbin won the 100 Back (1:05.26) for Dover and Riley Schie, Annie Wright, Bella Zobel and Elizabeth Lane combined to in the 200 Free Relay (1:49.50).

New Philadelphia (4th, 150), Coshocton (6th, 82) and River View (9th, 31) also took part from the area.

St. Clairsville's Casadie DiBetta set a meet record with a 2:16.70 in the 200 IM and Louisville's Katelyn R. Claugus won the 200 Free in 2:02.30.

Tuscarawas County Classic

The Carrollton girls and Beaver Local boys came out on top at the Tuscarawas County Classic at Wabash Lanes.

Carrollton won the girls title with a 3-1 win over Tuscarawas Central Catholic in the best of five Baker games in match play.

Carrollton was a 3-0 winner over Minerva in one semifinal and Central downed River View 3-1 in the other semifinal.

Making the All-Tournament First Team were East Liverpool's Delaney Riggle (649 total) and Addison Rudibaugh (639), Carrollton's Tara Oberlin (588), Dover's Kaylie Gibson (562) and River View's Maeve Gentle (541). River View's Emma Ward (533). Central Catholic's Madeline Rothrock (525) and Emily Garbrandt (514), Minerva's Skye Davis (494) and Dover's Sidney Zimmerman (488) were Second Team All-Tournament.

Beaver Local won the boys crown with a win over East Liverpool.

Beaver downed Carrollton 3-2 in one semifinal and East Liverpool topped Minerva 3-1 in the other semifinal.

Minerva's Ahdyn Lautzenheiser (722), Beaver's Kyle Haustman (697), East Liverpool's Gavin Maze (688) and Nathan Kelly (683) and River View's Tyler Bryan (644) made the All-Tournament First Team. Carrollton's Ian Pallaye (643), Cole Peoples (613), Beaver's Aiden Pilarick (608), River View's T.J. Crosby (605) and Carrollton's Eric Brackin (597) made the Second Team.

Girls basketball

Tusky Valley 51, Harrison Central 16

Ashley Merrick tallied 19 points and Kadence Slutz added 12 as Tusky Valley rolled past host Harrison Central at the WVU Medicine Women's Health Classic hosted by Harrison Central in Cadiz.

Brook Stookey was next in scoring with eight.

Tusky Valley (3-1) was on top 12-2 after the first quarter, 23-8 at the half and 40-16 at the end of three quarters.

Makayla Dunkle led Harrison Central with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Shadyside 51, Malvern 50

Shadyside outlasted Malvern in the WVU Medicine Women's Health Classic.

Paige Gorby split a pair of free throws with eight seconds to go to put the Tigers (2-3) on top. Malvern turned it over and didn't get a shot.

Gorby finished with 18 and 10 rebounds and was matched by Gentry Brown's 18 points to lead Shadyside.

Maddie Powers put in a game-high 26 points and added nine rebounds to lead Malvern (1-3). Lanie Bower added 15 for the Hornets.

Shadyside led 17-13 after one quarter and 31-25 at the half before Malvern took a 38-36 lead into the final frame.

Central Catholic 68, Conotton Valley 14

Reese Triplett scored a career high 24 points to lead Tuscarawas Central Catholic to and IVC North win at Conotton Valley.

The visiting Saints (3-0, 2-0) raced out to a 21-2 lead after one quarter and led 44-6 at the half.

Triplett nailed four 3-point field goals, including three in the first quarter. Maddie Ferrell scored 15 points and Delaney Savage also reached double figures with 10.

The Rockets fell to 0-3, 0-2.

Strasburg 46, Indian Valley 27

Rylee Thomas scored 18 points and Madi Becker added 12 as host Strasburg recorded an IVC crossover win over Indian Valley.

Strasburg (4-1) led 12-5 after one quarter, 29-16 at the half and 35-21 heading to the fourth quarter.

Macy Lancaster led he Braves with nine points. Madison Monte was next with eight.

Indian Valley won the JV contest 22-17.

Garaway 47, Ridgewood 37

Marley Metzger tallied 15 points and Kenadi added 12 as visiting Garaway knocked off Ridgewood in an IVC South contest.

Garaway (3-1, 1-0) led 17-7 after one quarter, 32-15 at the half and 40-21 going to the final frame.

Kya Masloski paced Ridgewood with 12 points. Alana Shroyer was next with eight.

Ridgewood won the JV contest 21-20.

Hiland 51, CVCA 44

Visiting Hiland knocked off Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in a non-conference clash.

The Hawks (3-1) made 19 of 20 free throws in the victory.

Louisville 43, Dover 26

Visiting Louisville outscored Dover 24-7 in the second half for a non-conference win.

The game was tied 19-19 at the half before the Leopards (4-1) outscored the Crimson Tornadoes (1-3) 12-4 in the third quarter and 12-4 in the fourth quarter to win going away.

Brooke Haren led Louisville with 15 points, while Aubrey Thomas and Courtney Barwick added nine each.

Tori Jones paced Dover with 15 points. Morgan Kiser was next in scoring with seven, while Taylor Luneborg grabbed six rebounds to lead the Crimson Tornadoes.

Louisville won the JV game 33-25. Sydney Stevenson had 12 points for Dover.

West Branch 49, Carrollton 45

Sophie Gregory scored 18 points and Anna Lippiatt added 12 to lead host West Branch to a slim Principals Athletic Conference win over Carrollton.

Carrollton led 16-14 after the first quarter, trailed 28-24 at the half, but retook a 38-37 edge into the final frame.

Sophia Glass led Carrollton with 15 points and Lauren Marmo added 12 points and nine rebound, while Hillari Baker chipped in eight markers.

Fairless 52, Manchester 34

Gracie Lyon fired in 25 points as host Fairless improved to 3-0 after a Principals Athletic Conference opening win over Manchester.

Kam Kondrach Gracie Ashton were next in scoring for Fairless with seven points each.

The Falcons led 19-10 after one quarter, 33-14 at the half and 46-26 after thee quarters of play.

Emma Stamperd led Manchester with 17 points.

Claymont 40, Clermont Northwestern 39

Emily Grant tallied 13 points and Emily Woodward added nine as host Claymont nipped Clermont Northwestern.

Claymont (2-2) led 13-8 after the opening quarter, 22-15 at the half and 33-20 going to the final quarter.

Raechelle Mills and Lauren Doane each added six points for the winners.

Tiffany Drenry led Clermont with a 13 points and Anna Best added 10.

In JV action Claymont won 38-21.

Crooksville 61, Coshocton 42

Jailynn Theisen scored five of her 18 points to propel the host Ceramics (2-3, 1-2) to a 13-2 lead through one quarter in a Muskingum Valley League Small School Division win over Coshocton (0-4, 0-3).

McKenna Headley totaled 19 points, including a 9-of-9 effort at the line, for Crooksville, which was up 29-15 at the half and 44-26 through three.

Grace Frame also chipped in nine points for the Ceramics, while Keeley Murray's 18 points and Olivia Blust added nine points to pace Coshocton.

Sheridan 72, River View 21

Jamisyn and Faith Stinson combined for 40 points, as the visiting Generals (3-1, 3-0) built a 13-2 advantage through one quarter in a MVL Big School Division win.

Faith had five points in the first quarter and collected 11 of her 19 points in the second quarter, as Sheridan led 40-10 at the half, while Jamisyn made four of her five 3s in the second half on her way to 21 points to go with three steals.

Faith also collected seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks, Kinze Miller and Nora Saffell added nine counters each, Bailey Beckstedt chipped in seven points and seven steals and Abby Dupler grabbed five boards for the winners, who led 57-17 through three quarters.

Aaliyah Better totaled 13 points to pace River View (2-4, 0-3).

Boys basketball

New Phila 53, Fort Frye 34

Carter Vandall scored 11 points and Jadan Lowery added 10 as New Philadelphia improved to 3-0 in completing the weekend sweep of Marietta on Friday and host Fort Frye on Saturday.

Carrollton 57, Shenandoah 37

Senior Darick Miller had a big night with 22 points and 13 rebounds to go with four blocks propelled the Carrollton Warriors to a convincing home win over Shenandoah.

Brock Smith chipped in 11 points, six assists, and five steals for the winners.

Carrollton led 16-8 after one quarter, 27-15 at the half and 40-27 after three quarters of play.

The Warriors had a 35-21 edge in rebounding with Miller leading the way.

East Canton 45, Conotton Valley 32

Host East Canton rallied for an IVC North win over Conotton Valley.

The Rockets led 10-2 after the first quarter and led just 20-17 at the half before the Hornets took a 33-24 lead into the final frame.

The CV JV team won 41-26.

Wrestling

Lake Duals

Carrollton went 4-0 at the Lake Duals with wins over Madison (56-18), Riverside (50-27), Lake (36-33) and St. John's (78-6).

Wrestlers going 4-0 were Landon Jenkins, Kail Snair, Josh Carman, Levi Pidgeon and Dom Speelman. Jaden Powell went 2-0 on the day.

Hornet Holiday Tournament

Host Malvern won the annual Hornet Holiday Tournament team title as Johnny Walker (126), Tyson Clear (144) and Trevor Slider (190) won individual championships.

Clear, a freshman, was named the Most Valuable Wrestler.

Bobcat Invitational

West Holmes finished 6th at the Cambridge Invitational with a team score of 162. Brady Smith won a title while Mason Taylor, Dylan Strouse, Conner Varnes and Blake Norman all finished in 3rd place. Noah Tish added another top-4 finish for the Knights with a 4th place

Cruz Mobley highlighted the River View Black Bears' effort, falling 6-3 in the finals to finish second to Miami Trace's Bryce Bennett at 215 pounds.

Caden Matthews (150) placed seventh and Jacob Averitt (285) came in eighth for River View, which came in 13th out of 16 teams with 51 points.

Fairfield Union Invitational

New Philadelphia opened its season with a pair of wins at the Fairfield Union Invitational, topping the hosts 36-30 and Lancaster 59-18.

Mount Vernon Invitational

Dover kicked off its season at the Mount Vernon Invitational.

Those Crimson Tornadoes who placed were: 113: Braidan Jackson, 8th Place; 120: Christian Gomez-Sanchez (3-1), 2nd place; 120: Wilber Mejia Ajanel, 8th place; 126: Jack Osborn, 8th place; 126: Nathan Perez (2-2), 4th place; 132: Diego Ramirez (3-2) , 6th place; 138: Pedro Garcia (3-1), 5th place; 144: Egidio DiFazio (3-1), 3rd place; 175: Brandon Kiser (3-1), 3rd place; 285: Noah Tristano (4-1), 5th place.
