Saturday Kitchen presenter Matt Tebbutt was hospitalised this week for an appendectomy.

For anyone who's ever had an infected appendix, you'll appreciate the urgency of the situation, and Tebbutt shared his ordeal with his Instagram followers earlier this week.

Uploading a hospital bed selfie, his caption read: "Me, a morphine drip and an emergency appendectomy are keeping me from a much anticipated lunch at @manteca_london with @ollysmith @sarah10016 @hardiegrantuk.

"But everything and everyone here at The Grange Hospital in Gwent have been fantastic. Couldn't ask for more from such a brilliant health service. So grateful."

We wish him a speedy recovery, as did his nearest and dearest in the comment section, with chef and broadcaster Andi Oliver replying: "Babe!!!!! Bloody Nora! Get better soon my love! Thank god you're ok!"

Many of his followers also sent well wishes and messages of support for his recovery.

Tebbutt offered a little more of an update yesterday (January 21) sharing a photograph of a card he'd received from Ollie Smith, who appears alongside him on Saturday Kitchen, and some books he's reading, whilst also confirming that he is still recovering in hospital.

He concluded by saying:"Hopefully be home soon 🤞".

Elsewhere, Tebbutt's Saturday Kitchen predecessor James Martin previously reflected on quitting the morning cookery show.

"I didn't think leaving Saturday Kitchen would be such a big deal. I genuinely said to my agent, 'Stick it out there, but no one will be bothered', and next minute it was all over the papers.

"I left because 10 years is a long time. That's every Friday and Saturday you're giving up. I had to be in bed by 9pm and up at 3am. It's a tough show: there's a lot of content and when that red light comes on it's just you, cooking and interviewing, with 26 people in your ear," he added.
