Sandy Valley, Garaway among sectional baseball semifinal winners
Steve Steele drove in three runs and had a double, while Luke Williams and Ben Petro each had two hits and scored a combined five runs as No. 11-seeded Sandy Valley doubled up No. 9 and Inter-Valley Conference foe Tusky Valley 14-7 in a Division III sectional baseball semifinal at Zoarville Monday night.
The Cardinals improved to 12-11 and play at No. 4 Harrison Central Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a sectional crown. The Huskies defeated No. 14 West Muskingum 6-4 in another sectional semifinal.
Kaiden Mastri was the winning pitcher.
Austin Kohler had two hits and two RBIs for Tusky Valley (10-11).
Harrison Central 6, West Muskingum 4
Host and No. 4 Harrison Central defeated No. 14 West Muskingum in a Div. III sectional semifinal at Mazeroski Field.
The Huskies will play host to No. 11 Sandy Valley in a sectional title game Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Garaway 12, Newcomerstown 2
Doran Mast struck out eight and had two singles and three RBIs to help lead No. 2 Garaway to a win over No. 15 and Inter-Valley Conference foe Newcomerstown in a Div. III sectional semifinal on the hill in Sugarcreek.
Garaway (16-5) will play host to No. 7 Coshocton Wednesday at 5 p.m. in a sectional final. Coshocton edged Buckeye Local 3-2 in another sectional semifinal.
Garaway was up 10-0 in the top of the fourth with two outs when the game was delayed due to lightning.
Cameron Coblentz had a double and a single and two RBIs and Preston Miller had a double and two singles for the Pirates, who had 12 hits.
Ridgewood 9, Buckeye Trail 3
Andy Troyer took advantage of a lot of early runs and went the distance on the hill as No. 6 Ridgewood defeated No. 5 Buckeye Trail in a Div. III sectional semifinal at Old Washington.
The Generals will play at No. 4 Fort Frye Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a sectional title. The Cadets blanked No. 10 Edison 1-0 in another sectional semifinal.
Coshocton 3, Buckeye Local 2
Winning pitcher Hudson Wesney's walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted host and No. 7 Coshocton to a slim win over No. 12 Buckeye Local in a Div. III sectional semifinal.
Coshocton will travel to No. 2 Garaway Wednesday at 5 p.m. for a sectional final.
Wesney struck out 12 in the complete-game win and also added a double.
Gage Wright also had a big day with two hits, including a huge two-run single.
Fairless vs. Cleveland JFK
The Div. II Northeast sectional semifinal between No. 27 Fairless and No. 32 Cleveland John F. Kennedy was postponed by inclement weather and was rescheduled for Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Regular season
Waynedale 4, Hiland 2
Host Waynedale doubled up Hiland at Apple Creek. Cody Yoder, Jeff Todaro and Nolan Yoder each had two hits for the Hawks.
