Sanctuary Returns Koala to the Wild Following 'Distressing' Dog Incident

A “highly distressed” koala was released back to the wild, two weeks after being rescued by a wildlife sanctuary having become stranded up a tree in a New South Wales yard while three dogs lay in wait below.

Footage shared by the Port Stephens Koala Hospital to YouTube, shows Neville the koala, being released into the wild. The marsupial had been “tree’d” as the organization put it, leaving him stranded, with the dogs on the ground causing him great distress.

Having undergone tests to determine any underlying conditions while under the care of Port Stephens Koala Hospital, Neville was eventually given “the all clear”.

The organization said he was released into the rural area of Oyster Cove, “far away from dogs and in prime koala territory”.

The group shares regular updates on the progress of the koalas in their care via the shelter’s YouTube and Facebook pages. This footage was originally shared on July 13. Credit: Port Stephens Koalas via Storyful

- Neville is being released this morning, and he's just not certain of his whereabouts. But we found a nice spot for him behind the Oyster Cove, and trees. A little bit big for him, but he'll get up. [INAUDIBLE] How's that? Do you remember me? Yes, I rescued you. OK, you're right away from all them dogs now.
