San Jose Sharks forward Logan Couture fractured his ankle and will be out of the lineup for several weeks, the team officially announced Thursday.

Couture had to be helped off the ice during Tuesday night’s game against the St. Louis Blues at Enterprise Center in the second period following his battle for a loose puck with Blues defenceman Vince Dunn.

Chasing the biscuit alongside Dunn in the St. Louis zone, Couture took a shove from the rearguard before stumbling into the end boards.

The 30-year-old spoke to media on Thursday where he shared his disappointment in the unfortunate situation, but added he has full confidence in the team moving forward.

In a corresponding move, the team called up Joachim Blichfeld from AHL affiliate San Jose Barracuda. The 21-year-old forward ranks tied for sixth in goals among AHL rookies and tied for seventh in points this season, and has made two NHL appearances thus far.

Couture was named the 10th captain in Sharks franchise history ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. Through 44 games this season, he has 14 goals and currently leads the team with 36 points.
