Sales Tax Holiday set for Aug. 5-7 in South Carolina

Jun. 29—Friday, Aug. 5, through Sunday, Aug. 7, will be a time to save money in South Carolina.

That's when the Palmetto State's Sales Tax Holiday will be held.

During that 72-hour period, shoppers will be able to buy eligible items online and in stores without having to pay South Carolina's 6% sales tax and any applicable local taxes, according to a news release from the state's Department of Revenue.

"With the increased cost of living, this year's Sales Tax Holiday is a welcome relief for families," said Department of Revenue Director Hartley Powell in a prepared statement. "Everyone saves money during the tax-free holiday, particularly on back-to-school essentials."

Computers, printers, school supplies, clothing and accessories, shoes and certain bed and bath products will be among the eligible items.

They can be used or new.

Items that won't be eligible include digital cameras, smartphones, jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches and furniture.

During 2021's Sales Tax Holiday, South Carolina shoppers spent more than $24.5 million on tax-free merchandise.
