Saints announce uniform combo for Packers preseason game

The New Orleans Saints announced their uniform combination for Friday night’s preseason game with the Green Bay Packers, choosing to pair their white away jerseys with the usual gold pants. It’s the same look they went with in last week’s exhibition game against the Houston Texans, and a common one in franchise history — the white-and-gold combo has been used 61 times in combined regular and postseason matchups, dating back to 2006. Only white jerseys with black pants (68 games) and black home jerseys with matching black pants (79) have been worn more often.

Here’s the bad news: this uniform combination has the second-lowest winning percentage in the modern era, clocking in at a mere .607 (with 37 wins against 24 losses). The good news is that winning more than 60% of your games in it can hardly be spun as a negative, but that’s been the case in the golden age of Saints football.

Still, the final score doesn’t matter in preseason. Teams have gone undefeated during the summer only to lose every game in the fall. The goal here is to evaluate players in different roles to see how they could help the team when the regular season kicks off and games do matter. If they look good doing it in clean jerseys, well, even better.
