Sabine athletes feted at all-sports banquet
May 15—Baseball is still playing — and that's a great thing — but Sabine High School held its annual all-sports banquet on Wednesday, recognizing achievements in athletics for the entire school year.
Emma Logan and David Robinson were named girls and boys outstanding runners in cross country, respectively, and Jace Burns was named Sabine football's most valuable player for the 2020 season.
In addition to Burns in football categories, Kaden Manning was named offensive MVP, Ty Francisco defensive MVP, and Eduardo Jaimes the special teams MVP.
Rodolfo Fierros was named offensive lineman of the year, and defensive lineman of the year was presented to Asher Fisher. Brent Warren is this year's fighting heart award-winner.
In volleyball, Aubree McCann was named the program's overall MVP, with Ryanne Stuart winning offensive player of the year honors and Ally Gresham taking that honor on defense. Sierrah Richter was named setter MVP.
Blaire Kaufman was named girls basketball's player of the year. Mercedes Willett was named offensive player of the year, and Hailey Davis was presented with the fighting heart award. In boys basketball, David Robinson was named overall MVP. Breydan Pobuda took home the offensive MVP honors, and Jason Alexander, defensive MVP. Jason Strait was the fighting heart award-winner.
Tessa Peterson was named newcomer for girls powerlifting, and Kaden Richardson was newcomer of the year on the boys powerlifting team. Tayla Calico and Camden Ward won girls and boys powerlifting's most improved. Libby Thomburgh was named outstanding lifter for the girls team, and Kile Stripland for the boys.
In girls soccer, Dahjah Lewis was named the Lady Cardinals' most valuable player, with Sierrah Richter taking offensive MVP honors and Rosa Gaona winning top defensive player. Lillie Brooks was named most improved; Gracie Parrott won the fighting heart award; and Gisele Flores won the coaches award.
Eduardo Jaimes and Ty Francisco were named offensive MVP and defensive MVP, respectively, for boys soccer. Luke Kirkindoll was named newcomer of the year; Oscar Gonzalez won the hustle award; and Chris Sanchez won the fighting heart award.
Matt Morgan was named outstanding boys player in tennis, and Katie Stansbury and Jasmine Morgan shared that honor for the girls tennis team.
In golf, Trinity Brooks was named best girls golfer, and Cayden Phillips was named top boys golfer.
Aubree McCann was presented with the outstanding runner for girls track. Trinity Brooks was named best in field events. For the boys, Asher Foster was named top field athlete, Dalen Dowell was named newcomer of the year, and David Robinson picked up the outstanding runner of the year award.
For softball, Bailey Barnett was named overall MVP. Callie Sparks was named offensive MVP, Mackenzie Cook defensive MVP, and Layken Fortenberry the fighting heart award-winner.
