RXIV SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT | KC loses first game; faces Navarro today at noon at UT-Tyler

May 15—Kilgore College won the play-In game Thursday to get into the Region XIV Conference Softball Tournament, but in their first game in the event, it didn't go as swimmingly.

The double-elimination tournament is being played entirely at the University of Texas at Tyler, and the Rangers are 0-1, their backs against the wall after a 5-1 loss to Trinity Valley on Friday.

KC will face Navarro today at noon. The Rangers have to win to stay in the tournament.

Against Trinity Valley, the Cardials plated a run in the first inning, the another in the third. KC got on the board in the top of the fifth, cutting Trinity Valley's lead in half with a solo home run by Hannah Grumbles.

KC trailed just 2-1, but that didn't last long. TVCC scored three times in the bottom of the sixth for a 5-1 lead. They held KC off, and got the first-round win.

Rosaury Perez got the win on the mound, allowing just the one run on just two hits with nine strikeouts, a complete-game win. Jenna Lewis took the loss for KC, allowing five runs on nine hits, with four strikeouts.

Grumbles was 2-for-3 for the Rangers.
