Russian Ministry of Defense ‘predicts’ chemical attack on Odesa Oblast

The Russian Defense Ministry said on June 28 that Ukrainian troops might carry out a chemical attack civilians in Odesa Oblast in Ukraine and then blame Russian forces for it.

The Russian ministry stated that for this purpose, employees of Ukraine’s SBU security service had gone to the Primorsky sanatorium of the Ministry of Health in Kororne, Odesa region on June 18. The ministry said the SBU had "discussed with the management of the institution the issues of receiving, accommodating and providing medical assistance to victims of chemical (poisonous) substances."
The ministry also “warned” the West, the UN, the Red Cross and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons that reports of such “provocations” would spread widely in the Western media and on various Internet resources.

In the past, Russia has routinely accused western nations of faking reports about chemical attacks on civilians carried out by the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, a Kremlin ally, in areas controlled by the Syrian opposition.
The Russian Defense Ministry offered no evidence that Ukraine was preparing to attack its own civilians with chemicals.
