Rumors of Aiken High shooting threat spread on social media

Dec. 6—Aiken County Public School District is investigating rumors referencing a shooting threat at Aiken High School.

According to a release from the school district, a post was circulating on social media outlets and among students, causing the Aiken Department of Public Safety to react.

″[The post] has been thoroughly investigated by local law enforcement and was determined not to impact normal school activities," according to the release. "Precautionary measures, such as additional law enforcement, elevated hallway supervision, and additional communications when prompted, were implemented in an abundance of caution. Immediate follow-up to all shared concerns were and will continue to be offered to our school community to maintain safety and learning as our top priorities."

They echoed the safety of Aiken High School students and staff is their highest priority.

The threat comes just days after the Saturday night shooting death of 16-year-old Thaj Nance-Parker, who was a student at Aiken High School.

Nance-Parker was shot and killed at the McDonalds on York Street, where he was an employee.
