Royal reporter clarifies Serena Williams' comments on Meghan Markle and Archie

Baby Archie Harrison may be only six months old, but he's already a very well-traveled baby. The son of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry already has a passport filled with stamps from destinations we have yet to cross off our bucket list: Nice, Ibiza, Cape Town and Johannesburg to name a few!

However, according to royal reporters, the United States is not included.

As reports roll in that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will soon embark on a six-week break from royal duties to spend Archie's first Thanksgiving with Meghan's mother, Doria, later this month, it's been reported that the imminent trip is not his first across the pond. These rumors come after an older interview with Serena Williams on her relationship with Markle surfaced this weekend, which many took to imply that Archie had accompanied his mother on her stateside visit to the US Open Finals.

"I’m not sure many people can relate on that level [the amount of attention and scrutiny Meghan gets as a royal and her coping with it]," the tennis star dropped in an interview with Access Hollywood about her friendship with the royal.

She continued after the high-profile match: "I just really think she’s literally the strongest person I know and the nicest, sweetest. She flew all the way with a newborn to see me play in New York and flew all the way back that night, and I probably couldn't have done that. That kind of goes to show you what an amazing person she is."

Royal reporter Rebecca English took to Twitter on Monday, however, to clarify Williams' comments, saying that the grand slam winner meant that she found it touching Meghan made the trip, even with a baby back at home.

"I think Serena Williams was trying to say (although it wasn't couched particularly clearly) was that she found it touching Meghan made the effort to go to the US to see her while having a young baby - not with her newborn baby. Seems like there's been some crossed wires," the Daily Mail reporter tweeted.

Williams' friendship with the Duchess of Sussex dates back nearly a decade after meeting at the 2010 Super Bowl and attended her royal wedding to Prince Harry back in 2018. Markle is often spotted cheering the tennis champion's matches, and this summer was photographed on a number of occasions cheering on Williams at Wimbledon.
