Royal girls finish fifth at Lady Huskies invitational

Jan. 26—OTHELLO — The Royal High School girls wrestling team finished fifth at the Lady Huskies invitational in Othello on Friday and Saturday, and Wahluke High School wrestlers competed.

Royal scored 103.5 points, finishing behind Toppenish, Kennewick, Othello and Chiawana high schools. Wahluke finished with 18 points, which was good for a three-way tie in 39th place.

The tournament drew wrestlers from 50 teams throughout eastern Washington, northern Oregon and northern Idaho.

Royal's Alondra Morales won the tournament title in the 140-pound class, pinning Kadie McMullen of Ephrata High School. Emma Villa of Royal finished second in the 155-pound class, losing a 9-0 decision to Ruby Rodriguez-Rios of Toppenish.

Lauren Jenks of Royal took fifth in the 125-pound class, defeating Brianna Arias of Toppenish in a 6-5 decision. Royal's Jaiden Hill took sixth in the 135-pound class, losing by a pin to Cassidy Jones-Mowen of Liberty Bell High School.

Six Wahluke wrestlers competed in the tournament, but none made it to the championship rounds.
