Roundup: Thompson leads Lakewood to the OHSAA sectional girls golf title

Avery Thompson fired a 77 on Wednesday at Mentel Memorial, leading the Lakewood girls golf team to its third consecutive Division II sectional championship.

Thompson, a junior, recorded a pair of birdies during a 37 on the back nine as she tied Columbus School for Girls' Kristina Ma for medalist honors.

Lexi French followed with 82, Abigail Colley 85 and Lauren Griffith 89 for the Lancers, who totaled 333, finishing 20 strokes ahead of runner-up CSG.

Lakewood and Heath's Reagan Kelly and Summer Mohler qualified for Monday's district tournament at Darby Creek. Kelly shot 92 and Mohler 94 for the Bulldogs.

GIRLS SOCCER

Watkins beats Valley

Lindsey Castillo and Jaylyn Thornton each scored twice for Watkins Memorial in a 6-1 victory against visiting Licking Valley in Licking County League play.

Kenzey Jones-Barrera and Danielle Backus also scored for the Warriors (9-2-1, 5-0), and Thornton, Ella Perry, Maddi Daughtery, Gwen Blasco and Abby Mumford each had an assist. Madison Skeese made two saves.

Avery Williams scored off an Olivia Wells assist for the Panthers (5-4-2, 2-3). Malakiha Bunn made 22 saves.

VOLLEYBALL

Heights beats Granville

Taylor Porterfield distributed 29 assists on Tuesday for Licking Heights in a sweep of Granville (6-10, 3-6), 25-21, 25-16, 25-17, during LCL-Buckeye play.

McKenzie Hall added 13 kills, Bella Skeie three aces, Alyssa Hill three blocks and Syd Stout 11 digs for the Hornets (12-6, 7-3).
