Roundup: Northridge boys soccer knocks off Watkins Memorial
Zach Holder's goal with 13 minutes left Thursday gave the Northridge boys soccer team a 2-1 victory against visiting Watkins Memorial in Licking County League play.
Keon Stone scored in the first half, and Thad Stone assisted on Holder's goal for the Vikings (8-2, 3-1), who beat the Warriors for the first time in program history. Maddox Johnson made 11 saves.
Ryland Owens scored off a Braidyn Geary assist for the Warriors (7-4-1, 4-1), briefly tying the match before Holder's heroics four minutes later.
Heights cruises
Zack Wagenbrenner and Luka Stojcev each had a hat trick in Licking Heights' 10-0 victory against visiting Zanesville (1-9, 0-4) in LCL play.
Noah Spicer, Sudip Mangar, Brian Fernández and Ashtin Davis also scored for the Hornets (4-3, 2-1). Chris Anderson and Landon Lewis shared the shutout.
Granville wins at Lakewood
Connor Pyle and Malcolm McCarthy made two saves apiece for Granville in an 8-0 victory at Lakewood (5-6, 0-4) in LCL play.
Johnny Wright scored twice for the Blue Aces (8-2-1, 5-0), and Jackson Terry, Jake King, J.J. Herro, Grady Kirian, Graham Shoaps and Grady Johnson scored once each.
Johnstown blanks Heath
Agustin Escutia scored twice for Johnstown, fueling the Johnnies (5-5-1, 2-2) in a 6-0 victory against visiting Heath (5-7, 1-4) in LCL play.
Elliot Layman, Chance McGinnis, Hunter Groves and Keaton Curnette also scored.
Newark falls
Newark (3-9, 0-3) lost 3-0 at Central Crossing (8-3-1, 2-1) in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.
GIRLS SOCCER
Johnstown edges Heath
Cameron Goddard and Jordan Ellis scored during the final 20 minutes to lift visiting Johnstown past Heath 3-2 in LCL play.
Goddard also scored the other goal, and Madison McKee, Miranda Tyack and Kylee Wade each had an assist. Anika Slavens made eight saves for the Johnnies (4-4-4, 1-3).
Allie Dunlap and Kerilyn Davis each scored for the Bulldogs (7-5-1, 2-3), and Dunla and Brielle Keck each had an assist.
Granville wins at home
Ella Hoover's two goals and an assist led Granville to a 7-0 victory against visiting Lakewood in LCL play.
Izzy Lauffer, Lyndy Van Horn, Allison Tarone, Hope Mahl and Sydney Werner each added a goal for the Blue Aces (11-1, 5-0), who remain tied for first place with Watkins Memorial. Wilson Foster made one save.
McKenna Clem led the Lancers (3-3-4, 0-3-1) in goal.
Heights rolls
Emma French's hat trick led Licking Heights to a 5-0 victory at Zanesville (5-6-1, 0-4-1) in LCL play.
Savanna Cronin added two goals and two assists and Sophie Queen and Kaitlyn Ireland an assist apiece for the Hornets (5-5, 3-2). Ellie Wright made three saves.
VOLLEYBALL
Utica nips Lakewood
Emilee Ellis and Alexa Gosnell recorded six kills and 18 assists apiece, rallying Utica to a 3-2 victory against visiting Lakewood, 14-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-10, in LCL-Cardinal play.
Emma Kimpel added nine kills and two aces, Ellie Boggs seven kills and Aubrey Hughes 13 digs for Utica (6-11, 4-7).
Kenna Parkison distributed 49 assists to Charlee Palmer, who had 14 kills, Abi Miller 13 kills, Addi Link nine kills and three blocks and Audrey Thomas 26 digs for the Lancers (3-13, 1-10).
NC wins at Heath
Ava Heffley served four aces and made 21 digs for Newark Catholic in a victory at Heath (9-6, 7-4), 25-21, 25-21, 25-14, in LCL-Cardinal play.
Sophie Peloquin totaled nine kills, Ava Gummer and Maddie Kauble eight apiece and Kylie Gibson 34 assists for the Green Wave (16-2, 12-0).
Johnstown wins at Northridge
Emily Yanczura distributed 30 assists and served three aces for Johnstown in a victory at Northridge (5-13, 3-9), 13-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-15, in LCL-Cardinal play.
Kylie Sharp totaled 11 kills and Allison Bonito seven for the Johnnies (12-3, 9-2).
Darla Dorman led the Vikings with 14 kills. Sara Roser added seven kills and Mia Bartlett 18 digs.
Newark wins
Avery Reagan's 12 kills led a balanced attack for Newark in a victory against visiting Reynoldsburg (10-9, 4-3), 20-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-16, in OCC-Buckeye play.
Bella Martinez added 11 kills, Jenna Shackleford 10 kills and three aces and Carlee Thompson 24 assists and four aces for the Wildcats (12-6, 5-2).
GIRLS TENNIS
Granville sweeps
Sophia Tuma, Abby Sanders and Grace Emery won singles matches for Granville in a 5-0 victory against Central Crossing.
Eliza Kurtz and Abby Riley and Emery Johnson and Ela Kendrick each won doubles matches for the Blue Aces.
Taylert leads Newark
Addi Taylert rallied for a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, 4-6, 6-0, 6-1, for Newark in a 3-2 loss at Mount Vernon.
Vanessa Bennett and Andy Hupp won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, 6-1, for the Wildcats (10-10).
