Roundup: Heath's Gould, Jacks take gold in Robin Drumm Classic

Two Heath wrestlers stood at the top of the podium Saturday, winning titles during the program's Robin Drumm Classic.

Riley Gould finished 5-0 with four pins at 150 pounds, edging top-seeded Alex Moore, of Franklin Heights, 5-4 in the semifinals. Carter Jacks finished 5-0 with three pins and two technical falls at 157, pinning Coshocton's Kobe Rust in the final.

Lakewood had three champions, leading the Lancers to the team title. Lakewood totaled 277.5 points, finishing ahead of runner-up Utica's 245 and third-place Heath's 127.

Lakewood's Braxton Torres finished 5-0 with four pins and a technical fall of Groveport's Josh Morrison in the 106 final. Corey Rafferty finished 5-0 with four pins and an 11-8 victory against River View's Tucker Mounts in the 120 final, and Josh Taylor went 5-0 with three pins and a 12-3 victory against River View's Travin Berry in the 165 final.

Utica's Breyden Hill pinned all five of his opponents, beating Lakewood's Chase Townsend in the 113 final, and Brock Wygle matched him, beating Lakewood's Brandon Allen in the 138 final. Clayton Smith finished 4-0 with three pins, beating Franklin Heights' Jaiden Reed 12-2 in the 144 final.

Utica's Ash Robinson (150) and Lakewood's Keegan Jacks (Hwt.) also took runner-up. Licking Valley's Aiden McMahan (106), Gunnar Hickman (126) and Cooper Hornfeck (138), Heath's Daylen McIntyre (144) and Lakewood's Tyler Chrisman (157) and Josiah Ellinger (175) all placed third.

Valley duo climbs to top

Alijah Stevens and Conner Roback won championships to lead Licking Valley to the team title during Jonathan Alder's Ron Thomas Sr. Invitational. The Panthers totaled 170 points, one better than Mount Vernon.

Stevens finished 4-0 with three pins at 132, pinning Kenton Ridge's Caleb Kennington in the final. Roback finished 4-0 with one pin at 138, beating Bishop Watterson's Leo Pavell 7-2 in the final.

Mason Hornfeck (106), A.J. Kimble (113) and Joe Perkins (126) added runner-up finishes for the Panthers.

Newark's Fairall takes title

Newark's Rhys Fairall pinned all four of his opponents to win the 150-pound title at North Union's Don Wasserbeck Classic.

Fairall pinned Miami East's Daniel Martin in the final. Teammate Kallan Baker finished 4-1 with two pins to take third at 175.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Johnstown tightens up race

Johnstown held host Lakewood to eight field goals, picking up a 42-29 victory to move into a first-place tie in the Licking County League-Cardinal Division.

Abigail Adkins scored 15 of her team-high 18 points in the first half for the Johnnies (8-6, 6-4), who are tied with Newark Catholic. Brooke Barb stuffed the stat sheet with eight points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three assists, and Kylie Sharp added eight points.

Camryn Martindale scored 10 points for the Lancers (6-6, 4-4), who sit a game back. Emma McLean added six points.

Valley runs away from Heights

Kylee White totaled 12 of her game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, sealing Licking Valley's 68-47 victory at Licking Heights in LCL-Buckeye play.

Rylee Hillis added 11 points, Sophia Crabtree 10 and Avery Williams eight for the Panthers (10-4, 8-2).

Santia Torres caught fire for the Hornets (4-11, 2-9), hitting five 3-pointers and totaling 19 points. Tori Diggs added 10 points and Kasheenah Lovinsky nine.

Granville rolls

Cate Schieber erupted for a 17-point first quarter, fueling Granville in a 51-19 victory against visiting Zanesville (9-6, 6-4) in LCL-Buckeye play.

Schieber finished with 24 points for the top-ranked Blue Aces (16-0, 9-0). Ella Wigal added 14 points.

GCA nips Delaware

An 11-8 edge in the fourth quarter allowed Granville Christian to earn a 33-31 victory at Delaware Christian in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Hannah Hubbard scored 14 points, including her final two in the closing seconds, to lead the Lions (11-5, 7-1), who remain a game behind Tree of Life in advance of Tuesday's visit to the Spartans. Brianna Hubbard added six points.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Northridge outlasts Valley

Ian Travis stuffed the stat sheet with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, leading Northridge to a 68-63 victory against visiting Licking Valley in LCL play.

Nic Minder added 20 points and J.D. Miller 12 points and eight rebounds for the Vikings (9-3, 6-2).

Dillan Stewart scored 20 of his 28 points in the second half, attempting to rally the Panthers (6-10, 3-6). Colby Stough added 17 points.

GCA wins on road

Granville Christian hit four 3-pointers in a 22-point first quarter, sparking the Lions to a 45-36 victory at Delaware Christian in MOCAL play.

Brendon Austin totaled 18 points, hitting four 3s. Andrew Benvie added 10 points and Zac Leija eight for the Lions (9-5, 4-3).

Granville edged on road

Granville could not overcome an 11-point first half, falling 38-34 at Tri-Valley.

Dante Varrasso led the Blue Aces (8-6) with 12 points. Rex Rader added nine.

SWIMMING

Masters wins pair

Lakewood's Austin Masters won the 50 freestyle (25.05) and 100 free (55.74) to lead Licking County competitors during the River View Invitational in Coshocton.

Teammate Ashton Spasky won the 100 breaststroke (1:17.55) with Newark's Andrew Schweiger taking runner-up (1:19.66).

In the girls meet, Lakewood's Iris Woodall won the 200 free (2:32.42), and she joined Emma Graham, Landry Driskel and Abby Thompson on the runner-up 200 free relay (2:07.73).

Newark's Maryn Hatfield took runner-up in the 400 free (5:40.33).
