Roundup: Coshocton, Ridgewood baseball win sectional titles

SUGARCREEK — Winning pitcher Coby Moore and reliever Travin Berry held Garaway in check on Thursday.

Moore scattered five hits, struck out five and walked three in five shutout innings and Berry allowed only one hit in two scoreless innings of relief, as seventh seed Coshocton upset the second-seeded Pirates 3-0 in the Division III sectional final.

The Redskins advanced to face third seed Harrison Central at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Indian Valley.

Coshocton broke through in the third. Colton Conkle led off with a single and moved to second on a sac bunt. After going to third on a passed ball and a Kobe Rust walk, Conkle came home on a Zach Jennings sac fly.

The Redskins plated two more in the fifth. Gage Wright hit a two-out single and moved to second on an error before coming home on Rust's hit. Jennings followed with a double to bring Rust home for a 3-0 lead.

Jennings had two of Coshocton's six hits and Moore also doubled.

Brady Roden took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits with six strikeouts and two walks in five innings. Preston Miller and Gabe Amicone had two hits apiece for the Pirates.

Ridgewood 7, Fort Frye 2: Chase Booth hit a two-run blast in the first inning and Kolby Masloski led off a four-run fourth with a solo home, as the sixth-seeded Generals topped the fourth-seeded Cadets in a Division III sectional final.

Ridgewood will face top seed Martins Ferry at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Harrison Central.

The game was tied at 2 entering the fourth. Zander Stroup added a RBI single in the fourth, while Booth and Alex Stroup earned bases-loaded walks with two outs in that frame.

Andy Troyer had three hits, including a RBI single in the seventh, Masloski added two hits and Booth knocked in three runs for the Generals.

Booth earned the win, throwing two-hit ball over five innings. He gave up both Fort Frye runs, while walking four and fanning three, and Trent Warden tossed two innings of scoreless relief, striking out three.

Track and Field

Several athletes earned regional berths: River View and Coshocton had some regional qualifiers during the first day of Division II district meet at West Holmes.

The top four placers earned regional berths. The River View boys 4x800 relay came in second (8:33.59) to move on, while Coshocton's Korbyn Haley placed third (20-1 1/2) and Isaac Shook fourth (20-1) in the long jump to also advance.

Several River View, Coshocton and Ridgewood boys will compete in the finals on Saturday.

Hickory Flats Ladies results: The Twelve Hickory Flats Tuesday Evening Ladies played on May 17 for Most Putts. The winner in A-Flight was Linda Miller 20 and B-Flight Kathy Hendricks 24.

Those with a score under 50 were; Connie Lahna 46 and Sue Patterson 49.

River Greens Ladies results: The River Greens Thursday Morning Ladies league played for Low Net Minus Mystery Hole on May 19. The A-Fight winner was Cathy Adams (30) and B-Flight was Linda Miller (37).

Members who scored under 50 were: Cathy Adams and Mardella Rice 44; Connie Lahna 46; Bonnie Ramshaw 47; Diana Ray 48; Rhonda Barlan 49.

Coshocton Football Alumni holding golf outing: The Coshocton Football Alumni Association will host its inaugural Golf Outing at 1 p.m. June 11, at River Greens Golf Course.

Registration will start at noon for entries the day of the outing. Cost is $50 per person or $200 per team. A dinner will be held afterwards which is included in your entry fee and there will be an auction after dinner with Coshocton Football memorabilia and other items that have been donated by area businesses.
