Round Rock, Pflugerville, Del Valle, Manor and Hutto school districts cancel classes Thursday
The Del Valle, Hutto, Manor, Pflugerville and Round Rock school districts announced school closures Thursday due to inclement weather conditions, the only districts in Central Texas to do so. The school districts had previously announced a two hour delay to classes on Thursday.
The National Weather Service issued an advisory for Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, warning of expected freezing rain that could result in a "light glaze on elevated surfaces" for "portions of south central Texas."
The temperature in Austin dropped from 88 degrees on Tuesday to 32 degrees Wednesday, leading to a record, 24-hour swing of 56 degrees.
Several Austin-area school districts, including Austin and Georgetown, stuck to plans for classes to begin two hours later than usual on Thursday.
