Rosalía Makes a Compelling Case for the Unibrow in Her New Video

Rosalía’s usual beauty aesthetic leans more toward bubblegum pop princess—think glossy pink lips and two mini buns tied with scrunchies—but she often takes a much more opulent approach in her music videos. Just take “Aute Cuture” from earlier this year as an example. The video centered on a crew of manicurists who grant their customers eternal youth through their work. Rosalía tapped New York City–based artist Juan Alvear to work his signature surreal magic on each nail set.

In her new video for “A Palé,” however, Rosalía takes things in a much more naturalistic direction. The title of the song itself refers to the wooden shipping pallets that were stacked high in the industrial Barcelona suburb where Rosalía grew up. In the video, Rosalía is surrounded by illuminated shipping containers. But it’s her eyebrows that catch one’s eye even before the cavernous setting. In what appears to be a reference to Frida Kahlo’s signature unibrow, Rosalía’s eyebrows are completely filled in. It’s a bold look that has made its rounds on the runway—two models walked in the Fall 2018 Gucci show with all-natural brows. Here, Rosalía adds her own twist to the trend, by complementing her unibrow with a gleaming gold grill.

Leave it to Rosalía to try out two daring beauty moves at once.
