Roommate quietly moves belongings out after friend makes it ‘impossible’ to live together: ‘Don’t let him guilt you for more money’

A man is slowly moving out of his home without telling his roommate.

The 26-year-old named Eric asked Reddit’s “Am I the A******? (AITA)” forum for help. He and his best friend Chaz graduated college six months ago. They previously lived together in a rental Eric fully furnished.

When Chaz bought a house, he invited Eric to move in with him. They agreed to split the mortgage and living costs down the middle. Now, Eric is at his wit’s end with Chaz and says it’s “impossible” to live with him.

Besides ruining Eric’s belongings, Chaz has implemented a ton of strict house rules.

“One day I came home to find all my my items in a pile food, clothes, etc.,” Eric explained. “Chaz said he didnt like where I had them and that I needed to find new places for them.”

Eric said this behavior has “become a weekly occurrence.” Chaz also imposed the rules that no items were allowed on countertops, the kitchen sink, tables or even in common spaces besides furniture. Moreover, he turned Eric’s bathroom into the guest bathroom despite their initial agreement.

Eric decided to slowly move all of his belongings (most of which furnished their home) to his parents’ house eight hours away.

“I am tired of walking on my toes (I actually do, he has a rule about walking as lightly as possible),” Eric wrote.

Redditors felt like getting away from Chaz was a great choice.

“Run, and don’t let him guilt you for more money or for leaving him in a bad spot,” a user said.

“You can’t continue to live where you are,” another wrote.

“He sounds toxic,” someone replied.
