Roman Josi helps Nashville Predators get past Detroit Red Wings

Ryan Johansen took advantage of the man advantage to give the Nashville Predators the advantage on the scoreboard early during Tuesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings.

The center steered Matt Duchene’s pass past Alex Nedeljkovic 12 minutes, 32 seconds into the first period of a 5-2 victory in Detroit, which saw its winning streak end at five.

The Predators were without goalie Juuse Saros and defenseman Mattias Ekholm, who both missed the game with non-COVID-related illness, the team said.

Ekholm said Monday his family had been battling the flu of late.

A little more than five minutes Johansen’s goal, Roman Josi, who had the secondary assist on Johansen’s score, did the same with a pass from Dante Fabbro to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Red Wings managed just three shots on goal during the first period and five more in the second before finishing with 16.

Robby Fabbri scored a power-play goal for Detroit halfway into the second to cut its deficit in half.

Nick Cousins made it 3-1 Predators 2:33 into the third, with Josi picking up the primary assist. Eeli Tolvanen upped the advantage to 4-1 less than five minutes later. Not long after that Michael Rasmussen cut it to 4-2.

Fabbro capped off the scoring with a goal with 31 seconds left.

David Rittich started in goal for the Predators and made 14 saves.

The Predators (14-10-1) recalled goalie Connor Ingram from Milwaukee before the game, the first of four on this road trip.

The Red Wings fell to 13-10-3.
