Rockford family displaced by house fire

ROCKFORD — A fire caused an estimated $12,000 in damages to a four-family apartment building on Sunday, according to the Rockford Fire Department.

Firefighters were called to 3316 Sablewood Drive about noon Sunday after reports of smoke coming from a second-story window. Firefighters searched the building for occupants and did not find any. A woman safely escaped the building before they arrived.

Firefighters located the fire inside one of the building's apartments and put it out.

The building suffered smoke damage. According to the Rockford Fire Department, the fire was accidental.

The woman and her five children were displaced by the fire. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
